Mike Tyson has finally explained his true reasons for pulling out of his original fight with Jake Paul back in July.

The 58-year-old boxing titan was set to face off with YouTuber-turned-pugilist Paul, 27, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, back in July, but he was forced to withdraw from the bout due to medical issues. Instead, Paul took on late replacement Mike Perry – a former UFC star turned bare-knuckle boxer.

The 'Problem Child' ultimately bested Perry via a sixth-round TKO after peppering his foe with heavy body shots from the opening bell, notching his record up to 10-1 in the squared-circle. However, his attention has since been reset to 'Iron' Mike, with the two set to finally have their day in the ring next month.

But why did Tyson pull out of the bout in the first place? What caused his medical problems? And where is he at now in terms of fitness? Here, Mirror Fighting breaks it down...

What happened?

Mike Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up which caused him to become dizzy during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles back in May. Paramedics attended the at the time 57-year-old at LAX, confirming what had happened. A statement read: "Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great.

"He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him." Now, Tyson has revealed that his diet was what caused the flare-up, telling Mail Online : "I was doing too much bad food and stuff, and I got sick."

What was the impact?

As a result of his medical concerns, doctors advised that Tyson put a pause on his training for a couple of weeks. While this may have not been an issue for the veteran boxer outside of a fight camp, he was scheduled to fight Paul just a couple of months in the future, thus meaning that he would have missed a vital opportunity to truly sharpen his skills going into the bout.

Instead, Tyson pulled out of the bout and Paul took the short notice fight with Perry, in which he saw his hand raised after just six rounds. Tyson has revealed that he has tidied his diet up since, and that he is now ulcer-free and ready to duke it out with the social media sensation next month – training six hours a day to get fighting fit and give the best example of himself despite his age.

What is the new date for the fight?

While the bout was initially set to take place on July 20, it has since been rescheduled to November 15. It will still take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in front of up to 90,000 fans. The fight will take place at heavyweight and it will be a professional bout sanctioned by The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – meaning that if Paul wins, he will go 11-1 in the sport.

Paul has been incredibly active since turning pro four years ago, besting a whole host of top names in the world of combat sports, including former UFC stars, Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. His only loss came at the hands of Tommy Fury last February via split-decision.

While he may have been a heavyweight world champion back in his day, Tyson hasn't fought professionally since his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride. He did, however, return to the ring for an eight-round exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr in 2020, which was called a draw after going the distance.

With a total record of 50-6-2(NC), Tyson could bolster his record further should he be victorious over Paul next month – adding to a long list of names who bested in his heyday, including Frank Bruno, Michael Spinks, Carl Williams and Bruce Seldon to name a few.
